Effects of comorbid Aβ pathology on the manifestation of vascular cognitive disorders

  • The clinical and radiological manifestations of vascular cognitive disorders (VCD) are affected by the presence of amyloid-β (Aβ) and vary with VCD severity.

Why this matters

VCDs, characterized by multiple brain infarcts that lead to cognitive decline, are frequently seen in combination with Aβ pathology. Recent evidence indicates that Aβ may be a secondary pathology in non-Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) clinical syndromes. Understanding the significance of Aβ deposits in non-AD pathology will help to inform diagnosis and improve care and treatment.
